We raised enough to add a brand new vehicle to our fleet!

Thanks to many wonderful individual contributions and an incredibly generous matching gift from the Tang Foundation, we raised enough money to buy a brand-new van for Nevada HAND’s transportation fleet! The new van will serve our two affordable assisted living communities, providing essential transportation services for our most vulnerable residents. The addition of this new vehicle will help Nevada HAND accommodate the growing demand for this vital service, ensuring seniors have access to safe, dependable, door-to-door transportation to doctor appointments, grocery shopping, and fun community-building trips, all at no cost to them!

As part of our fundraising efforts for the Neighborhood Block Party on October 5th, we warmly invite you to contribute to the “Get on the Bus” Special Fund, a unique initiative supporting free transportation for nearly 2,700 low-income senior residents who have an average annual income of $20,000. Nevada HAND’s free weekly shuttle trips to destinations like grocery stores, pharmacies, essential doctor appointments, and local activities aren’t just a convenience for low-income seniors they are a lifeline.

Providing free, safe, ADA-accessible, door-to-door transportation services for Nevada HAND senior residents costs over $400,000 a year, which includes paying for our wonderful drivers and the maintenance of our fleet.

  • This annual cost will continue to rise as we work to accommodate increased ridership, and as we open new affordable senior communities.

In honor of Nevada HAND’s 30th anniversary, our goal is to raise $30,000 for the Get on the Bus Fund.

  • 100% of your donation to this Fund will go towards providing essential transportation services for low-income seniors, which in turn helps improve health and wellness outcomes, combats social isolation, fosters a sense of independence, and builds community.
  • Gifts of any size will make a difference and help senior residents Get on the Bus!
    • Your $300 donation provides free transportation for three independent senior residents for an entire year.
    • Your $3,000 donation underwrites a month of transportation for three independent senior communities.
    • A generous $30,000 donation gets us 1/2 of the way to a brand-new transportation vehicle for our fleet!

A special raffle: For every $100 you donate to the “Get on the Bus” Special Fund, you will receive one entry into a raffle to win a retro Igloo “Kool Tunes” cooler/music player PLUS a pair of tickets to the Raiders-Jets game on Sunday, November 12, at 5:20pm!

  • The raffle will be pulled Friday, October 6th and the winner will be announced by email.

Support for Transportation Services

Transportation is a vital resource for low-income seniors, providing access to grocery stores, doctor appointments, pharmacies, and other essential services. As the cost of living continues to rise—and because senior residents have fixed incomes—dependable, accessible, free transportation services are more important than ever. Support from neighbors like you allows Nevada HAND to maintain our shuttle fleet and handle increased ridership.

Your generous donation will help us continue providing transportation services that directly support senior residents’ health and quality of life. As former Director of Community Relations Christopher Aguilar shares in the video below, “You are not just giving a shuttle [ride]. You are giving independence.”
